The adopted resolution states that Ukraine should be invited to join NATO at the upcoming NATO summit in Vilnius on July 11 to 12.
Lithuania proposes to "to sign accession protocols, and launch the ratification process once conditions allow." It is noted that this step will be NATO's strategic decision to seek peace in Ukraine and Europe.
"We are against grey security zones, we want to prove wrong the thesis that Russia has the right to veto Ukraine’s membership. We think that Ukraine will contribute to our security, will make NATO stronger," said Žygimantas Pavilionis, chairman of the parliamentary Committee on Foreign Affairs.
Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó called Ukraine's possible membership in NATO unacceptable. He promised to do everything to prevent the Alliance from becoming a party to a conflict with Russia.
British Foreign Secretary James Cleverly said that now was not the time for specifics about Ukraine's accession to NATO, the priority was the defense capability of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
On April 4, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said at a press conference following the first day of the summit in Brussels that Ukraine would become a NATO member - the Alliance's position had not changed.
