Kyiv residents create petition to install main Christmas tree in Ukraine’s capital
“We will not let Russia steal Christmas and New Year!" – Kyiv residents say as they create a petition calling on city authorities to install the main Christmas tree of Ukraine
The corresponding petition is published on the website of Kyiv City Council.
Text of the petition notes that nowadays celebration of New Year is not a whim. Today, this is a challenge for Russia, which is "trying to steal our land, our identity, our holidays."
"Not celebrating Christmas and New Year today is a gift to terrorists. It shows them that they have achieved their goals, at least partially," Inna Bondar, author of the petition, notes.
In her opinion, Kyiv residents and Ukrainians in general need positive emotions, even in conditions of shelling and constant power outages. She emphasizes that all citizens of Ukraine now need "emotions of miracle in which we want to believe so much".
The author of the petition suggests installing a Christmas tree at the expense of donors and not placing anything around it. She also says that mass events should not be held. The main thing is that there is a Christmas tree.
"Main Christmas tree of Ukraine must be! Make it not with budget funds - make it with the funds of donors. Do not place anything but a Christmas tree there. Do not organize mass events. But the main Christmas tree of Ukraine must be!", the activist says.
