Kremlin responds to Trump’s remark that Ukraine can reclaim its territory
U.S. President Donald Trump said earlier that Ukraine was capable of restoring its territory “in its original form” with the EU’s backing. The Kremlin dismissed the remark, with spokesman Dmitry Peskov calling the claim false
Russian propaganda outlet RIA Novosti reported the information.
Putin’s spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated that “the situation around Ukraine is now different from spring 2022; Kyiv’s positions have become much worse.”
He called Donald Trump’s claim that Ukraine can reclaim its territories false.
Russia's Foreign Minister Lavrov is set to convey Russia’s position on the situation in Ukraine to the U.S. side in a meeting with Rubio.
The day before, U.S. President Donald Trump said after meeting the Ukrainian leader in New York that Russia resembles a “paper tiger” and that Ukraine, with EU support, is capable of reclaiming its territory “in its original form” and could “even go further.”
Trump stated that "After getting to know and fully understand the Ukraine/Russia Military and Economic situation and, after seeing the Economic trouble it is causing Russia, I think Ukraine, with the support of the European Union, is in a position to fight and WIN all of Ukraine back in its original form."
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy noted that this came as "a little bit" of a surprise to him. He emphasized that, in this way, Trump demonstrated his intention to support Ukraine until the very end.
