He made this statement in an interview with Fox News.
Commenting on Trump’s post, Zelenskyy said it was "a little bit" of a surprise for him.
“I am sure in my people, in my army, and I am sure in the strengthening, in the support of the United States. But President Trump was more positive in it, and he showed that he wants to support Ukraine to the very end. So we understand that now we are ready to finish this war as quick as possible. And he wants it, and I want it, and our people want it. But he understands that Putin doesn't want [to],” he said.
At the same time, the White House later quoted the U.S. president about Zelenskyy: “He’s a brave man, and he’s putting up one hell of a fight.”
- After meeting with the Ukrainian leader in New York on September 23, U.S. President Donald Trump said that Russia resembles a “paper tiger” and that Ukraine is capable of regaining its territory “in its original form” with EU support — and “even go further.”
