June 17 Russian attack marks largest airstrike assault in terms of weapon numbers — Defense Express
In previous large-scale attacks, Russia used 200–300 airstrike weapons, while on June 17, nearly 500 were launched, most of which were kamikaze drones of various types
This was stated on Espreso TV by military expert from Defense Express, Ivan Kyrychevskyi.
"Unfortunately, this is the largest attack in terms of the number of airstrike weapons used. Before June 17, we could refer to the figures from February 24, 2022 — on that first and hottest day, the Russians launched 160 missiles at us. All previous Russian strikes labeled as the largest-scale involved 200–300 airstrike weapons. In this episode, the enemy launched nearly 500, and the majority were kamikaze drones of various types, with a relatively small portion being air- and ground-launched missiles," commented the Defense Express military expert.
According to him, there is now no doubt that "the Russians could have missed their targets," especially after the strike on Ohmatdyt, as some Western media wrote at the time, suggesting investigations and assessments were underway. Now it is clear to everyone, based on the nature of the destruction and the number of casualties, that Russia deliberately targeted residential buildings with these missiles.
"Moreover, it was confirmed that Kh-101 missiles with cluster warheads were used. Such missiles cannot penetrate hardened targets like energy or military facilities — these clusters are designed to kill as many people as possible," Ivan Kyrychevskyi emphasized.
- Starting on the evening of Monday, June 16, the Russian army attacked Ukraine with strike drones and missiles. The consequences of the strikes are being recorded in Kyiv and the Kyiv region, Odesa, Zaporizhzhia, and Chernihiv region. As of 7:00 p.m. on June 17, 10 people were reported killed and more than 100 injured in Kyiv. There are also dead and wounded in Odesa.
