Italy will provide Ukraine with the sixth package of military assistance, which will focus on air defense, in addition to SAMP-T SAMs, it will include Skyguard Aspide air defense systems
Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni announced the sixth aid package for Ukraine during a joint press conference with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Suspilne reports.
According to her, the assistance includes, among other equipment, air defense systems.
In addition to defense aid, Giorgia Meloni discussed Ukraine's Euro-Atlantic integration, the peace formula, and reconstruction during her meeting with Zelenskyy. In particular, a conference on Ukraine's restoration will be held in Italy in April.
Meloni noted that the focus is now on providing defensive weapons.
"As for the supply of fighter jets. I want to make an important point: when it comes to a country that has been aggressed against, all weapons supplied to that country are defensive weapons. As I said, we are focusing on air defense systems at this stage. We have worked hard on this together with France to quickly transfer SAMP-T, but the new aid package also includes other Skyguard Aspide air defense systems," she said.
The Italian Prime Minister emphasized that today's strategic goal is to protect Ukraine's critical infrastructure. Italy is also making efforts to help demine Ukraine in cooperation with international partners.
