Interactive map with Russian military facilities in Crimea published online
The map includes Russia’s active, temporary and mothballed military facilities in Crimea. It is based on current satellite imagery from Planet Labs for 2023
The map is available on Radio Liberty's website.
The map shows where and what kind of danger is posed by military and other facilities associated with the Russian Defense Ministry and other security agencies of the aggressor country.
The objects on the map are divided into 10 categories: Russian Black Sea Fleet facilities; weapons and munitions depots; air bases and airfields; radio and communications stations; air defense and missile forces; border guards, internal troops, intelligence and other units of the Russian Armed Forces; fuel for troops; training grounds; military facilities with unknown purpose; and facilities of radiation, chemical and biological defense troops.
The map's creator, journalist Ihor Tokar, noted that it was important for the team to inform the audience about the level of militarization of Crimea.
“We want to warn Crimeans about the danger associated with these places. After all, many people live in close proximity to Russian military facilities. And given the large-scale military operations that Russia is waging against Ukraine, these places pose a particular danger to others,” he said.

The Polish edition of Forsal wrote that the battle for Crimea could become a key one in history. The analysts noted that recapturing Crimea would mean the collapse of Russia's entire policy of pushing southward.
