IAEA director visits temporarily occupied Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant

"On my way to Zaporizhzhia NPP to assess first-hand the nuclear safety and security situation at the facility,” IAEA Director General writes.

Grossi stressed that he will continue his efforts to protect the nuclear plant during the ongoing “military conflict”.

"I will lead our next regular rotation of IAEA experts to and from the site," Grossi added.

• On March 9, IAEA Director General Raphael Grossi expressed his concern over another power outage at the ZNPP, which occurred as a result of the massive missile attack on Ukraine by the Russians. Grossi urged the IAEA staff to commit to protecting the nuclear safety of the station.

• Energoatom named the most likely scenario for the de-occupation of the Zaporizhzhia NPP - its encirclement by Ukrainian troops without shelling the plant.

• On March 22, the IAEA reported the threat of disconnection of the ZNPP from the last backup power line.

• Director General of the IAEA, Raphael Grossi, stated that the creation of a demilitarized zone around the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant is no longer under consideration.
