Head of Bundestag defense committee appealz to Scholz after France's decision to transfer light tanks and Bastion to Ukraine

On January 4, it became known that France will transfer AMX-10RC wheeled tanks and ACMAT Bastion armoured personnel carriers to Ukraine. French President Emmanuel Macron promised Zelenskyu this during a telephone conversation.

• On December 6, 2022, Ukrainian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dmytro Kuleba, called on Germany to demonstrate leadership and finally transfer Leopard 2 tanks, Patriot systems and Marder BMPs to Ukraine.

• Already on December 7, the United States stated that it supports transfer of Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine, but noted that this should take place at the initiative of Germany.

• On December 17, the Chancellor of Germany stated that the country will not unilaterally transfer Western-style tanks to Ukraine and this condition will be maintained next year.

• The head of the Bundestag's defense committee, Marie-Agnes Strack-Zimmermann, called Chancellor Scholz's refusal to give tanks to Ukraine "not only incomprehensible, but also alarmingly short-sighted."

• And already on December 29, leader of Christian Democratic Union faction, Friedrich Mertz, insisted on the supply of modern Leopard-2 battle tanks to Ukraine.
