German opposition leader demands that Scholz approve supply of tanks to Ukraine
The leader of the Christian Democratic Union faction, Friedrich Merz, insists on supplying Ukraine with modern Leopard-2 battle tanks.
This was reported by Tagesspiegel with reference to Merz's statement.
“Germany and other European countries should have supplied Ukraine with IFVs and Western-style main battle tanks a long time ago,” he stressed.
According to the leader of the Christian Democratic Union, supporting Ukraine with infantry fighting vehicles and battle tanks would not prolong this war, but would shorten it.
He called it an important signal for Russia that US President Joe Biden last week once again assured of his support for Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
“It's good that at least the Americans acted decisively and put up defensive missiles. Joint actions of the United States and the European Union regarding various supplies of weapons to Ukraine would definitely be possible,” says Merz.
