Over 80 million tons of cargo exported through Ukrainian sea corridor
A total of 2,985 ships have used the Ukrainian sea corridor to deliver products to ports in Africa, Asia, Europe, and America
According to the Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority (USPA), this has helped export 53.5 million tons of agricultural goods, which is vital for food security in many countries.
In October 2024, Ukraine set a record for annual goods exports, reaching $3.8 billion - 18.7% more than in September. Since the beginning of the year, total exports have reached $34.6 billion, mainly driven by increased agricultural exports and the efficient use of the sea corridor, said Yurii Lytvyn, the head of the USPA.
From January to October 2024, Ukrainian seaports handled 82.1 million tons of cargo, nearly double the 46.1 million tons from 2023. Of this, 50.7 million tons were agricultural products.
The ports in the Danube Delta are also an important alternative route for exports and critical imports, and they have reliable alternative power sources to ensure continuous operations.
- On September 18, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that over the year of the sea corridor's operation, more than 2,500 vessels left Ukrainian ports, carrying 70 million tons of cargo.
- On October 14, the Russian army attacked the Odesa port infrastructure with a ballistic missile, killing one person and injuring 8 more. Two civilian vessels were also damaged.
