Former Polish President Kwaśniewski suggests that conflict in Ukraine may be frozen
Freezing the conflict in Ukraine is an option that should be taken into account. Perhaps part of the territory will be under international control for some time
Former Polish President Aleksander Kwaśniewski said this in an interview with Ukrinform.
According to him, Ukraine should receive clear assurances of future NATO membership. However, it is obvious that joining the Alliance is impossible during the war.
"The prospect of NATO membership should be clearly outlined. Instead, the path to the Alliance is a problem because of the war that needs to be won, and here NATO must show its determination to continue training the Ukrainian military and providing Ukraine with weapons," the Polish politician said.
He suggested that the return of all the occupied territories could be a complicated and lengthy process.
"In addition, it will be necessary to determine what Ukraine's victory should be. If we recognize that Ukraine has to liberate the territory up to the borders of 2014, then it may be a long way," Kwaśniewski said.
At the same time, he suggested that the conflict might be frozen.
"But if it is determined that part of the territory can be under some kind of international control until fair elections are held there, and not a referendum like the Russians did, then this is also an option that should be taken into account," the politician emphasized.

Ukraine has repeatedly emphasized that it will not agree to freeze the conflict. In particular, in April, Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said: "We are ready to discuss any peace plan that does not lead to a freeze in the conflict or to a territorial concession by Ukraine."
