Dutch fighter jets intercept 3 Russian military aircraft near Poland
Two Dutch F-35 fighter jets have intercepted 3 Russian military aircraft near Poland from Kaliningrad, Russian city situated between NATO and EU members Poland and Lithuania
This was reported by the Dutch Ministry of Defense, Reuters informed.
The interception of Russian military aircraft was reported on Monday evening, February 13.
"The then unknown aircraft approached the Polish NATO area of responsibility from Kaliningrad," the Dutch Defense Minister said in a statement.
Following identification, the aircraft turned out to be 2 Russian Su-27 Flankers accompanying a Russian Il-20M Coot-A. Dutch F-35 fighters intercepted and escorted them from a distance, and later handed over the escort to NATO partners.
For reference: Il-20M Coot-A is the official NATO name for the Russian Il-20M reconnaissance aircraft. Su-27 Flanker is the official NATO name for the Su-28 fighter jet.
