Drone attack against Moscow primarily serves psychological purpose – military expert Zgurets

The drone attack on Moscow's Rublyovka, where the residences of influential Russian figures are located, carries both military and informational implications

Serhiy Zgurets, director of the information and consulting company Defense Express, stated this on Espreso.

“The drone attack on Moscow's Rublyovka, where the residences of influential Russian figures are located, carries both military and informational implications. Although GPS coverage was disabled over Moscow to impede the drones' navigation, it did not significantly affect their effectiveness. This situation indicates that the effectiveness of the electronic warfare (EW) system and air defense system in Moscow is not substantial. This strategy is likely a Ukrainian response to the Shahed strikes on Kyiv,” he said.

Zgurets highlighted that the conflict is witnessing a clear emphasis on the use of unmanned systems and countermeasures against them.

“Various tactics, capabilities, and types of drones are being developed. The large-scale use of drones against Moscow primarily serves a psychological purpose. However, I hope that future operations would specifically target military installations vulnerable to drone strikes. It is vital to maintain a military focus due to the increasing potency of drones. By carefully analyzing the placement of air defense systems, it is possible to identify routes where Ukrainian drones can reach Moscow. This indicates that with thorough preparation, success can and must be achieved. We must enhance the number of systems capable of carrying out attacks and to improve their technical capabilities. This will ensure reliable mission performance even in the face of the enemy's air defense and EW measures,” the expert concluded.
