Dnipro’s water level drops by 31 centimeters in Kherson

Oleksandr Prokudin, head of the Kherson Regional Military Administration, reported the information on Telegram on Saturday, June 10.

"On the 5th day of emergency response operations at the Kakhovka HPP, the water level in the Dnipro River near Kherson is 4 meters and 72 centimeters above the norm. Since yesterday evening, it has dropped by 31 centimeters. On the Right Bank, 35 settlements have been flooded, with 3,763 houses underwater. Kherson and Bilozerka are the most affected by the flooding. The water level at the Kakhovka HPP has dropped by 6 meters and 25 centimeters," he said.

Prokudin also informed that a large-scale rescue operation is currently underway, with nearly 1,500 personnel and 345 pieces of equipment involved. Yesterday alone, 248 individuals were successfully evacuated to safety, bringing the total number of rescued to 2,588. Presently, there are 9 evacuation points in operation.

According to the head of the Kherson Regional Military Administration, in the occupied Hola Prystan, Russian troops prohibit people from evacuating, threatening to shoot them.

At the same time, the Hola Prystan City Council informed on Facebook that water level in the Russian-occupied city has also begun to drop.

"On average, the water level in various parts of the city and settlements of Velykokardashynskyi starostat has decreased by 20 to 30 cm. However, the water outflow in the central part of Hola Prystan has decreased compared to the eastern part and Velykokardashynsky starostat," the statement said.

Flooding situation

On June 6, Russian occupying forces blew up the Kakhovka HPP, completely destroying it.  The tragedy resulted in the flooding of settlements in the Kherson region, including Kherson city. There are also reports of flooding in Mykolaiv, Dnipropetrovsk, and Zaporizhzhia regions, resulting in fish pestilence. Follow the detailed course of events here.

As of Thursday evening, June 8, the water level in the Kherson region dropped by 6 cm.

On the morning of June 9, the head of the Kherson Regional Military Administration, Oleksandr Prokudin, said that the water level in the region had dropped by 20 cm; 3,624 houses in 32 settlements had been affected by flooding.

On Friday, June 9, Russian troops once again shelled Kherson’s shoreline during the evacuation of local residents. As a result of the attack, 3 people were injured, including a child. Additionally, equipment of the State Emergency Service was damaged.
