Constant shelling makes it impossible to take garbage from Avdiivka – mayor
It is impossible to remove garbage from the frontline Avdiivka in Donetsk region due to constant shelling, but water is accessible as it is pumped from wells
Vitaliy Barabash, the head of the Avdiivka military-civilian administration, stated this on Espreso.
"There are threats related to garbage pollution, which exist in every community even during peacetime. Now, the risks are much greater in frontline communities. Despite repeated attempts to remove garbage, each effort has ended with the garbage truck coming under fire. While we are planning certain strategies to deal with the problem in an improvised way, ultimately, the situation will unfold as it may. We are mere bystanders in this particular situation," he said.
According to Barabash, access to water is easy as it is pumped from wells. "People are being recruited and provided with pills that disinfect and filter water. We provide them with instructions on how to use the pills. People don't drink raw water, they boil it, but it still needs to be disinfected. Volunteers are bringing in sufficient quantities of these pills, so there are no problems with them. We are also trying to import bottled water, and volunteers are helping with this," he concluded.
