China's top diplomat arrives in Moscow

Foreign Minister Wang Yi, who was appointed last month as the top foreign adviser to Chinese leader Xi Jinping, is making the visit during an eight-day international tour.  

"Russian-Chinese relations are very multifaceted and allied, the agenda is clear and very broad, so there is a lot to talk about," Kremlin’s spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.

CNN reports that according to the Chinese Foreign Ministry, the visit to Moscow would provide the countries with an opportunity to continue developing their strategic partnership and "exchange views on international and regional issues of common interest."

The two sides did not specify whether Wang would meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin, but Kremlin spokesman Peskov said the day before that "we do not rule out a meeting" between Wang and Putin. 

This is the first visit to the state by a top Chinese diplomat since Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

• On February 18, The Wall Street Journal reported that despite the sanctions, Russia continues to import civilian Chinese drones from DJI through its distributors and from the Gulf countries.

• And US officials claimed that China could be providing non-lethal military aid to Russia for use in Ukraine, including uniforms and even bulletproof vests. So, after that, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken warned China’s top diplomat Wang Yi that if the country supported Russia's armed aggression, it would have "serious consequences for interstate relations."

• Subsequently, the United States warned China against making a decision to provide Russia with lethal military assistance, as this would cross a "red line."

• Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said there was a risk of a world war if China supported Russia in its war on Ukraine.

• Ukrainian diplomat Pavlo Klimkin is convinced that China sees Russia as its main ally in the geopolitical confrontation with the West and the United States.
