The head of European diplomacy, Kaja Kallas, commented on reports about two captured Chinese citizens who fought for Russia, stating that this does not indicate that the Chinese army is involved in the war against Ukraine

She made the comment at a press conference after the Ukraine–EU Association Council meeting.

Kallas said she had already discussed the issue with Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal.

Kallas noted that this did not mean the Chinese army was involved, but emphasized that China could share whatever information it had. She pointed out that China played a key role in Russia's war, and without its support, Russia would not be able to fight on the scale it currently does.

She added that 80% of dual-use goods going into Russia came from China, and in her view, it was clear that if China genuinely wanted to stop supporting the war, it would make a significant difference.
