Canada will buy NASAMS air defense complex for Ukraine from the United States
Ottawa will acquire NASAMS air defense complex from the United States and transfer it to the needs of Ukraine.
Canadian Defense Minister Anita Anand stated this following telephone conversation with Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksii Reznikov, "European Pravda" reports.
"This is the first Canadian donation of an air defense system to Ukraine. In the face of Russia’s brutal airstrikes on Ukraine, this air defence system will help to protect Ukrainian population centres and critical infrastructure against drone, missile, and aircraft attacks," head of Canadian Ministry of Defense emphasized.
She added that NASAMS systems have an extremely high index of efficiency, which will make Canada's assistance a very valuable contribution to Ukraine's defense capability.
"By providing comprehensive military assistance, Canada will continue to support Ukrainian people in their struggle against Russia's illegal and unjustified invasion," Anand said.
This was also stated by Justin Trudeau during a meeting with US President Joe Biden, the website of the Canadian Prime Minister's Office reports.
Trudeau did not specify when exactly the purchase will take place and when NASAMS system will be able to be delivered to Ukraine.
NASAMS is an anti-aircraft missile complex designed to combat maneuvering aerodynamic targets, it can destroy UAVs, ballistic missiles, helicopters, aircraft, cruise missiles and other targets. Belongs to air defense systems of small-medium range. The complex was developed by Norwegian firm Kongsberg Defense & Aerospace and American firm Raytheon Technologies.
