Canada may be first to allow confiscation of Russian property and money - Larisa Galadza
Canada's Ambassador to Ukraine Larisa Galadza has said that countries should react to human rights violations and make an effort to stand up for the rules and standards of the democratic world.
She told about this in the exclusive interview for the Espresso channel.
Mrs. Ambassador commented on Ottawa's decision about confiscating property and finances from Russians on Canada’s territories to later donate it to Ukraine’s restoration.
“We’re in a vanguard in this question. Confiscation of property from Russians is a difficult question, but Canadian experts are trying to figure out this question in collaboration with Ukraine. We think that Canada could be the first country to approve this Bill and will donate the confiscated money to Ukraine to compensate for the losses done by Russia.”
Larisa Galadza expressed her hope that the Canadian Parliament will demonstrate complete support for this Bill.
The Extraordinary and Authoritative Canada’s ambassador in Ukraine stated that Canada has expressed strong support for Ukraine in other questions as well. A few weeks ago the Canadian Parliament approved the decree about declaring Russia’s actions on Ukraine’s territories a genocide.
Mrs. Galadza summarised that the norms of the democratic world have to be supported and kept, as well as standards of International politics. Because we can’t have a world where the Force is leading. If there’s a violation of the International standards, we need to stand against it and have the whole world doing the same, because without these norms and rules there won’t be any success for Canada, Ukraine, or any other countries.
