Brazil convenes emergency meeting of UN Security Council due to events in Israel

The Brazilian government is calling for an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council. Brazil demands peace talks within internationally recognised borders

This was reported by the Brazilian government.

The Brazilian government condemns the series of bombings and ground attacks carried out today in Israel from the Gaza Strip. It expresses its condolences to the families of the victims and its solidarity with the people of Israel. Reiterating that there is no justification for violence, especially against civilians, the Brazilian government calls on all parties to exercise maximum restraint to prevent an escalation of the situation.

As President of the United Nations Security Council, Brazil will convene the body's emergency meeting.

The Brazilian government reaffirms its commitment to the two-state solution, with Palestine and Israel living together in peace and security within mutually agreed and internationally recognised borders. It also reaffirms that mere conflict management is not a viable alternative to resolving the Israeli-Palestinian issue and that the resumption of peace negotiations is an urgent necessity.
