The meeting was held because of the government's concern about the regional security of these states - the ministers together assessed the current security situation on the EU border with Belarus and Russia.
It is reported that since 2021, the countries have been facing illegal migration provoked by the Belarusian regime, which is "clearly supported by Russia." The statement explains that Russia is now using illegal migration as a way to destabilize the situation in these countries and the EU as a whole, in particular, in the form of border provocations.
"We emphasize that we regard the actions of Russia and its collaborating Belarus as overt attempts to destabilize the region. We declare with all firmness that we will stand together against this," the statement says.
It is noted that the actions of the countries will be decisive and appropriate to the situation - up to the possibility of further isolation of the two regimes by closing the checkpoints.
"We call on the Belarusian regime to withdraw the Wagner PMC from Belarus, remove all illegal migrants from the border areas and return them to their countries of origin," the text says.
The statement emphasizes that ensuring security at the EU's external border is a priority for these 4 countries.
