UK to supply over 5,000 air defense missiles to Ukraine in £2.5B deal
Ukraine and the United Kingdom have signed a long-term defense agreement lasting 19 years, under which London will supply Kyiv with over 5,000 air defense missiles produced by Thales, a British defense company.
This is stated on the British government's website.
The total value of the deal is £2.5 billion. The missiles will be delivered under a contract with Thales Group, boosting both Ukraine’s air defense capabilities and job creation within the UK.
“As we continue to witness the enduring strength of the Ukrainian people, the UK stands by their side to provide the assistance their country needs to not only stay in the fight, but to rebuild and recover.
This announcement underlines our continued support for Ukraine – boosting their air defenses against devastating drone and missile attacks and supporting the critical work to reconstruct this nation and provide the hope that they need,” said UK Deputy Prime Minister Angela Rayner.
In addition, Ukraine will receive a package of 350 air defense missiles, funded for the first time by interest accrued from frozen Russian assets.
