New Zealand announces over $9.4 million in new aid package for Ukraine
Prime Minister of New Zealand Christopher Luxon and Foreign Minister Winston Peters have announced new aid for Ukraine totaling about 9.4 million U.S. dollars
This is reported on the website of the New Zealand government.
As noted, the new package will include both military and humanitarian assistance.
Specifically, 4 million New Zealand dollars (2.3 million USD) will be allocated to multinational funds that provide Ukraine with lethal and non-lethal aid—the NATO Security Assistance Fund (NSATU) and the Drone Coalition, which is coordinated by the UK and Latvia.
"The defence of Ukraine has significant implications not only for the security of the Euro-Atlantic, but also for the Indo-Pacific. We must continue to work with others in the international community to uphold a rules-based order that serves all our interests," Foreign Minister Peters emphasized.
Another 7 million New Zealand dollars (4.1 million USD) will go to support affected communities within Ukraine, and 1 million (593,000 USD) will be allocated to help Ukrainians who have found refuge in neighboring countries.
"The scale of need remains vast, as Russia continues its bombardment of densely populated civilian areas of Ukraine," added Prime Minister Luxon.
Recently, the New Zealand government also announced the introduction of new sanctions targeting a number of individuals and legal entities from Iran, North Korea, and Belarus due to their support of Russian aggression against Ukraine.
