Belgium pledges €150 million in aid to Ukraine over 3 years
Ukraine will receive €150 million in financial assistance from Belgium by 2028, which will be directed, in particular, to the restoration and support of critical infrastructure and preparation for winter
Ukraine's Ministry for Communities and Territories Development reported the information.
A large-scale international technical assistance project has been launched in Ukraine — the Belgian Initiative to Support Ukraine’s Recovery (BE-Relieve Ukraine). It is being implemented by the Belgian government through the development agency Enabel.
Deputy Minister for Communities and Territories Development, Kostiantyn Kovalchuk, explained that the project is not just technical assistance, but a partnership between Ukraine and Belgium in the field of reconstruction.
The Belgian initiative will run until the end of 2028. During this time, Ukraine will receive €150 million from Belgium. The project participants include the Chernihiv and Kyiv regions, as well as the city of Kyiv.
Key focus areas of the project include:
- Modernizing energy infrastructure: introducing decentralized heating and power systems, providing mobile boiler units and generators;
- Healthcare and social protection: renovating medical facilities, launching rehabilitation programs, and offering inclusive services;
- Education and employment: upgrading school and technical college infrastructure, and hosting forums to strengthen cooperation between business and education;
- Supporting European integration: facilitating reform implementation and deepening ties with Belgian partners.
Among the priority actions are the delivery of 212 generators to educational institutions, mobile boiler units for hospitals and municipal enterprises, and the repair of Ukraine’s medical infrastructure.
- On April 8, Belgian Prime Minister Bart de Wever said his country will provide Kyiv with €1 billion in military aid and will consider participating in a peacekeeping mission.
