Zelenskyy awards Ukrainian military in Bakhmut
On Tuesday, December 20, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy arrived in Bakhmut, where he awarded the Ukrainian military.
Serhiy Nikiforov, spokesman of Ukrainian President's Office, reports.
He stated that Volodymyr Zelenskyy made a working trip to the Donetsk region, where he met with Ukrainian military personnel defending Bakhmut.
President visited advanced positions of one of the mechanized divisions on the approaches to the city, listened to the commander's report on the operational situation, logistical support and proposals for further actions.
"Being in the area of hostilities, Volodymyr Zelenskyy thanked Ukrainian soldiers for their courage, resilience and strength, which they demonstrate while repelling Russian attacks," Nikiforov said.
During the trip, President presented state awards to military personnel, they were received by soldiers of mechanized, motorized infantry, mountain assault, tank, artillery and airmobile units.
"It seems to me that Heroes of Bakhmut should get the same thing that every person gets. I wish that their children, families - that everything would be normal for them, that there would be warmth, that there would be health. I would like to wish that there would be light, but it's such a complicated situation that sometimes there is light, sometimes there isn't. The main thing is that light should be inside," Zelenskyy said in a comment on the FREEDOM channel.
Earlier the channel noted that President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy visited Bakhmut with an unannounced visit.
Prior to this, the spokesman of the Ukrainian President's Office, Serhiy Nikiforov, confirmed President's visit to the front-line city to the Hromadske publication.
"He was really there. And, apparently, he has already left. But for the time being, for security reasons, we will refrain from commenting," Nikiforov said.
