Zelenskyy asked me to negotiate Ukraine support from China, Brazil - Former Italian Prime Minister
Former Italian Prime Minister Massimo D'Alema has revealed that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy asked him to carry out a diplomatic mission to China and Brazil
He shared this during the "Italian Foreign Policy During Trump's Time" conference, according to Open.
D'Alema mentioned that he met with Ukrainian President Zelenskyy in the corridors of the "Balkans summit," where Zelenskyy asked him to visit Brazil and China to explore whether the leaders of those countries could support Ukraine in its war against Russia.
"He clearly told me that his country is facing the threat of disaster because, sooner or later, the Americans will withdraw, and the Europeans are unreliable," said the former Italian Prime Minister.
According to him, Brazilian President Lula da Silva nearly kicked him out, saying that Ukraine is an issue for the Americans, and D'Alema should be more concerned about Palestine.
When he arrived in China, he realized that the Chinese, unlike others, had a plan. The person responsible for the Communist Party's foreign policy told D'Alema that a potential international peacekeeping mission in Ukraine, similar to what occurred in Kosovo, could be considered.
"Then he said goodbye to me with a phrase that made me think: 'You know, you're the first European to come talk to us about this. Others only ask us not to support Russia,'" D'Alema recalled.
As La Repubblica adds, the results of this "secret mission" remain unknown. At the same time, D'Alema emphasized that, in his opinion, China cannot be blamed for the war in Ukraine.
He also criticized Europe, claiming it had pushed for a war in which it was clear no one would be able to win.
- Director of the Center for Defense Strategies, Oleksandr Khara, believes that without China’s support, Russia would not have been able to sustain military operations for long, as it would have quickly exhausted its own resources.
