U.S. won’t risk broadcasting Putin’s demands on Ukraine – analyst Yizhak
Oleksiy Yizhak, an analyst at the National Institute for Strategic Studies, noted that the U.S. is looking for ways to play a more effective role in ending the war
He shared his opinions with Espreso TV.
"Trump will try to secure his own political success. I think the U.S. is limited in these negotiations because Ukraine doesn't need American involvement to surrender to Russia. In other words, American services are not required to simply repeat Russia’s position that Ukraine must capitulate for the sake of peace," Yizhak noted.
The analyst also added that the only thing the U.S. can do is work toward a just peace. The problem, however, is that Donald Trump doesn’t actually have the tools to achieve this — other than pressuring Ukraine.
"On the other hand, it's a good thing they still won’t risk broadcasting Putin’s demands on Ukraine. The U.S. is trying to find the right approach and ensure a more reasonable role in ending the war. But so far, nothing groundbreaking has happened. And that’s not exactly good. Right now, the U.S. isn’t making things significantly worse or better," Yizhak added.
- Earlier, Steve Witkoff, the U.S. President’s special representative for the Middle East, stated that negotiations with Russian representatives have included discussions on the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant and access to ports.
