U.S. pulls troops from key Ukraine aid hub in Poland
The U.S. Army Command in Europe and Africa has announced the relocation of American military personnel and equipment from the Jasionka airport in Poland, which serves as a key hub for aid to Ukraine
The U.S. Army Europe and Africa Command announced this.
The move, described as long-planned, aims to optimize U.S. military operations and improve support for allies, the command said in a statement. It emphasized that the decision was made after months of assessment and planning with Poland and other NATO allies.
This facility is not a permanent Polish military base, the statement noted, but has been used by U.S., NATO and partner forces for three years.
Despite the shift, Jasionka will continue to play a role in providing military aid to Ukraine under Polish and NATO leadership.
Polish President Andrzej Duda stressed the move does not signal a withdrawal of U.S. forces from the region.
U.S. troops were first stationed at Jasionka in 2022 following Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Since then, the airfield near Rzeszow has served as a critical logistics hub, protected by U.S. Patriot missile systems.
With NATO now overseeing Ukraine support — a change made after the recent Washington summit — Germany and Norway have stepped in by deploying their own air defense systems to ease the U.S. role.
