Trump's wish to resume trade with Putin will not come true, says ex-minister
Ukrainian Armed Forces major, diplomat, former Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine, and politician Volodymyr Omelyan believes that Donald Trump's inner circle is warning him against actively promoting the restoration of trade and economic ties with Russia
He expressed this opinion live on Espreso TV.
"Donald Trump desperately wants to trade with Putin, as he sees this as a way to enrich himself and his entourage. In this, he is not fundamentally different from many dishonest presidents found not only on the American continent. However, whether he will succeed in restoring trade relations with Russia — I think not. Trump's inner circle is telling him that Russians will always betray you, and you cannot trust the Russian word," Omelyan said.
The politician stated that it is impossible to predict Donald Trump's actions. However, expecting his administration to act tough against Russia is unrealistic.
"What will ultimately prevail is unknown. His tough rhetoric about deadlines and responses is also unclear. I don't think his reaction will resemble an operation like 'Desert Storm,' as his predecessors did. Still, never say never. Time will tell how U.S. President Donald Trump will act," he added.
- On April 25, a three-hour meeting took place in Moscow between Russian leader Vladimir Putin and U.S. special representative Steve Witkoff. The Kremlin claims that the politicians discussed the possibility of resuming direct negotiations between Kyiv and Russia.
