"They’re asking for our officials’ contact details": Ukraine's Ambassador to U.S. warns of prankster attacks
Ukrainian Ambassador to the U.S., Oksana Markarova, has revealed that her phone has been targeted by pranksters impersonating American government officials
She shared this information on Facebook.
“Colleagues, over the past few days, I’ve received numerous messages from pranksters or malicious actors pretending to be American government officials. They’re either asking for direct contacts of our officials or pushing for urgent talks — of course, claiming to be writing from some secret number,” Markarova wrote.
The ambassador emphasized that Ukrainian diplomats maintain constant communication with partners using only secure channels. She noted that all such incidents were promptly reported to law enforcement.
“Still, given the spike in these attempts and the rather convincing execution, I decided to write this post to highlight the attackers’ increased activity (aggressive northern neighbors, perhaps?). Stay alert and verify unfamiliar numbers, emails, or messages,” Markarova stressed.
