"Tangled like flies in a web": Politician Rybachuk on US Republican election campaign
Oleh Rybachuk, head of the Center for Joint Actions NGO and former Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine for European Integration (2005), believes that Trump and the Republicans are bringing up issues in their election campaign that are particularly troublesome for them
He shared his opinions with Espreso TV.
"Sociologists in the USA note that for the first time since October 2023, Harris has caught up with or even surpassed Trump — a shift we didn't see during the Trump-Biden race. Since last October, Trump has been ahead across the board, but this trend has now been reversed. In several key states, Harris is leading. It’s too early to say for sure. In general, it's clear that the campaign is not going well for him, he’s visibly nervous. I watched his press conference — it was a mess. And crucially, he stepped onto very thin ice by addressing the skin color of Americans, which is a losing move for him," Oleh Rybachuk stated.
He explained that the majority of Democratic voters are immigrants from various Asian and African countries, and Trump attempted to attack Harris over her skin color, pointing out that her father is African and her mother is Indian.
"Trump's Vice President, Vance, is in no better position. He started digging into the biography of his opponent, Tim Walz, Harris's vice presidential pick, and said he served in the National Guard for 24 years but falsely claimed to have been in combat. Although Vance himself has no combat experience, journalists immediately pounced on the issue, linking it back to Trump, who avoided service altogether. They're getting tangled up like flies in a web, stirring up topics that are clearly sensitive for them. We'll have to wait for the debate. Trump says Harris is weak, incompetent, and can't string two words together, so he plans to wipe the floor with her at the debate. This kind of approach just makes Trump and the Republican campaign look primitively scandalous," Rybachuk added.
Rybachuk concluded that Harris's main task is to give an option to everyone who doesn't want Trump as president. This is why the movement "Republicans for Harris" has already emerged — offering an alternative to Trump within the Republican Party, encouraging true Republicans to vote for Harris.
