Senate discusses more sanctions against Russia after Trump's statement
US Republican Senator Lindsey Graham reminded about his bill that calls for secondary duties on imports of oil, gas, uranium, and other products from Russia
Graham posted this on X.
His comment came after US President Donald Trump criticized Russia’s latest strikes on Ukrainian cities and questioned whether Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin really wants to end the war. Trump also threatened Russia with new sanctions.
In response, Graham said he appreciated Trump and his team's efforts, who are "working diligently to end the war in Ukraine — that was created by Putin’s barbaric invasion — in an honorable and just way."
"As to additional sanctions on Putin’s Russia, I have bipartisan legislation with almost 60 cosponsors that would put secondary tariffs on any country that purchases Russian oil, gas, uranium or other products," he noted.
Graham said the Senate "stands ready to move in this direction and will do so overwhelmingly if Russia does not embrace an honorable, just and enduring peace."
As is known, before the Pope’s funeral in Rome, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with his American counterpart Donald Trump. The meeting took place amid US pressure on Kyiv during efforts to end Russia’s war against Ukraine.
- Ukrainian Armed Forces major, diplomat, former Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine, and politician Volodymyr Omelyan believes that Donald Trump's inner circle is warning him against actively promoting the restoration of trade and economic ties with Russia.
