Russia bets on chaos in U.S. vote to distract from Ukraine - expert
Oleksandr Krayev, expert with the Ukrainian Prism Foreign Policy Council, says the Kremlin wants to spark civil conflict in the United States, hoping for a new civil war or similar unrest
The expert explained it in an interview with Espreso.
"The Russians are banking on chaos, not on any particular U.S. presidential candidate. The Kremlin is rooting for a civil war or any form of domestic conflict in America — that’s a proven fact. Moscow’s aim is to drive Americans to distrust each other as much as possible," Krayev said.
He noted that while Russia initially voiced support for Trump, it later hinted at a preference for Kamala Harris, showing they don’t truly back anyone specific — just the chaos. For the Kremlin, a destabilized U.S. means less attention on Ukraine.
"As for Trump's plans on ending the war, recent Kremlin statements show they're open to talks but only on their own terms. Nothing has shifted for the Russians on that front," the expert concluded.
