Russia, China are acting in way that makes peace talks impossible now - political expert
Political expert Vadym Denysenko says that without significant changes in the positions of Russia and China, peace talks seem impossible
He expressed this opinion on Espreso TV.
"I think that unless something extraordinary happens, it doesn't look like anything is going to happen. The Geneva summit can only confirm the status quo that I am talking about today, that the collective West does not accept, categorically does not accept Vladimir Putin's plan to end the war," the expert said.
Denysenko reminded that Western partners have provided Ukraine with weapons that they believe should last until about spring 2025.
"On the other hand, the People's Republic of China will play a very important role in ending this war. That is why they (Western representatives - ed.) are not focusing on Geneva, and in principle, they will continue to take the position of a kind of observer who watches what is happening, including on the battlefield. I would like to be wrong to say that something will change dramatically in the collective West before Geneva, but I don't see any prerequisites for that," the political expert explained.
He also answered a question about the possibility of holding talks with Russia after the Summit in Switzerland: "We are talking about certain theoretical outlines, again, theoretical possibilities will be in early 2025, yet the issue of the negotiation process has been effectively removed from the 2024 agenda. Once again, there was a theoretical possibility for these negotiations. Unfortunately, there was a situation in which the parties, I mean Russia and China, played a game that does not allow even consultations on the negotiations to begin at the moment.”
- Switzerland will host the Global Peace Summit on June 15-16 at Ukraine's request. However, the full list of participants has not yet been made public.
