Orban ally claims Ukraine’s EU bid could fuel human trafficking. Opposition pushes back
A Hungarian MP from Prime Minister Viktor Orban’s party posted a video claiming Ukraine’s EU membership would allegedly fuel human and drug trafficking. The opposition called the video a “public security threat”
Telex reported the story.
Earlier, Alexandra Szentkirályi, a close ally of Orban, shared a short video on Facebook showing a tied-up man in a car trunk. Over the footage, she warned that Ukraine joining the EU could increase organ, human, and drug trafficking.
According to the outlet, the man in the trunk is an employee of the Hungarian Prime Minister’s Office.
Ferenc Gelencsér, an opposition MP from the Momentum party, slammed the video as a “threat to public security.”
“On the other hand, how can someone be this stupid and insult a country where Hungarians also live,” he said.
Gelencsér also reminded that under Hungarian law, “anyone who spreads false claims that disturb public peace or suggest a looming public threat can face up to three years in prison.”
- Previously, Orban argued that Ukraine’s EU membership would bring extra costs to Europe and risk the collapse of the bloc.
