Lithuania develops national evacuation plan amid heightened security concerns
Lithuania is preparing a national plan for mass evacuation, expected to be ready by early October
Minister of the Interior of the Republic of Lithuania, Agnė Bilotaitė, stated this information, LRT reports.
“Civil protection is more crucial than ever. With the ongoing war in Ukraine, hybrid and disinformation attacks in our region, and new threats like sabotage, we are on the front line. Therefore, civilian protection has become a top priority,” Bilotaitė said.
She also noted that while each local government in the country has its own evacuation plans, a national plan is essential and must be ready for implementation.
Bilotaitė emphasized that updating civil defense at the national level alone is not sufficient. Therefore, there is a decision to collaborate with other Baltic states on this issue.
“It’s time to pool our resources and coordinate our efforts both regionally and at the EU level. While it’s a significant expense, we need to explore how we can combine our efforts and seek support from the EU. We’re advocating for a risk assessment at the EU level to better understand the threats and strengthen our civil protection measures,” the minister added.
- Recently, Lithuania has recorded a decrease in Russian ground troops due to the successful actions of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in Russia's Kursk region.
