Iran's strikes on Israel echo Russian tactics in Ukraine – ISW
Iran's recent drone and missile assault on Israel calls to mind strategic mimicry of Russian and Houthi tactics, aimed at refining more potent strike combinations
According to the Institute for the Study of War (ISW), this tactical evolution is evident.
The report highlights that Iran's assault on Israel bears resemblance to Russia's recurrent strikes in Ukraine, targeting the identification and neutralization of Western air defense systems.
The report stated that the Iranian drone and missile attack on Israel underscores Iran's emulation of Russian and Houthi methods, aimed at crafting increasingly potent strike combinations against Israel and the United States.
The coordinated deployment of Iranian drones alongside cruise and ballistic missiles seeks to confound and undermine Israeli air defense capabilities. This strategy includes simultaneous assaults by Iran-backed insurgents in Lebanon and Yemen.
Such Iranian tactics mirror Russian experimentation with combining ballistic and cruise missiles alongside Iranian drones to deploy more effective strike packages capable of breaching US and European anti-missile and air defense systems, noted analysts.
Moreover, ISW emphasized Iran's assimilation of lessons from Houthi assaults on international shipping near Yemen.
The agency highlighted Houthi's utilization of Iranian drones and missiles against US air and missile defense systems, enabling Iran to refine its strike capabilities.
ISW asserted that continued use of Iranian-developed drones by various adversaries of the United States, coupled with deepening ties between these entities, will facilitate Tehran, Russia, North Korea, and China in enhancing the efficacy of these systems against the US and its allies.
ISW further emphasized that the United States, along with its allies and partners, confronts a growing nexus of interconnected adversaries collaborating and learning from one another.
