Interpol-wanted Islamic State member detained in Kyiv
A member of the international terrorist organization the Islamic State (IS), wanted by Interpol since 2017, has been detained in Kyiv
Ukraine's Security Service (SBU) reported this on October 11.
The suspect is a citizen of a Central Asian country. Before the full-scale invasion, he illegally entered Ukraine using a fake passport. The Islamic State member had previously spent a long time in the Middle East, where he was involved in transporting militants to Syria.
After arriving in Ukraine, he tried to avoid justice by frequently changing his phone numbers and rental addresses in different cities. He also attempted to establish a channel for illegally helping immigrants settle in Kyiv.
The SBU found and arrested him at his temporary home in Kyiv. He is now in custody as part of the extradition process.
“The issue of extraditing the detainee to his home country, which placed him on the international wanted list in 2017, is being addressed,” the statement said.
