Civilized world is closed to those who back butchers

Beijing got the same clear message from the EU, and will hear it again during a shortened one-day summit with European leaders this week.
The civilized world’s trade club is closed to those who side with the butcher. This is how the rules-based order and basic human values must be defended.
If global trade was built in part as a tool of deterrence, now’s the time to use it that way.
Everyone knows it will hurt both sides, those imposing restrictions or tariffs and those being targeted.
But the civilized world is bigger. More creative. Stronger. And what’s at stake is its survival, not just Ukraine’s or Europe’s.
