China aims to catch up with US in terms of deployed nuclear warheads - analyst
Oleksii Yizhak, an analyst at the National Institute for Strategic Studies, reports that China is not only modernizing its nuclear arsenal but also expanding it
He shared his opinions with Espreso TV.
"The Cold War is already happening, but discussions are ongoing. There are countries that want to divide the world into zones of influence, and there are those that want global influence and change the rules. The nuclear factor is influencing the situation and it has been growing recently. The two main reasons are that Russia has decided to use the fear of nuclear weapons to achieve political goals. On the other hand, China is formally a non-nuclear opposition among the nuclear countries, but it has started the largest program to increase the number of nuclear weapons among the nuclear countries," Yizhak said.
According to an analyst at the National Institute for Strategic Studies, China is not only modernizing its nuclear arsenal but also expanding it.
"China has set a goal to catch up with the United States in terms of the number of deployed nuclear warheads by 2035. That is, those that are ready to be used after a command within a few minutes. In other words, China and Russia have drawn attention to nuclear weapons, creating a situation where nuclear weapons are being treated as a real means of warfare. That is, the nuclear factor is growing, but the total number of nuclear weapons is decreasing," Yizhak emphasized.
- On June 21, for the first time in five years, the United States and China resumed Track Two Nuclear Dialogues over the Taiwan conflict. Beijing's representatives told their American counterparts that they would not resort to nuclear threats.
- On July 31, it became known that the Russian army began the third stage of training of non-strategic nuclear forces, during which they will practice preparing to use weapons.
