Britain will back Germany's decision to send Taurus missiles to Ukraine — media
The UK will support a decision by incoming German Chancellor Friedrich Merz to supply Ukraine with long-range Taurus missiles, if he chooses to go ahead with it
This was reported by The Telegraph, citing a British official involved in foreign policy.
According to the official, Britain has long pushed for Germany to transfer Taurus missiles to Ukraine. He noted that London would back the move if the new chancellor takes action.
“We continue to work with our partners, including Germany, to equip Ukraine as best we can to defend its sovereign territory,” the unnamed official said.
For context: Taurus is a German-Swedish long-range air-to-surface cruise missile. It can hit targets over 500 km away. It carries a powerful warhead capable of penetrating fortified structures and uses advanced guidance systems to fly at low altitudes and avoid air defenses. The missile is used by NATO allies, including Germany.
- On April 14, Friedrich Merz, the incoming German chancellor, said he had always supported sending Taurus missiles to Ukraine — if the decision was coordinated with European partners.
- Meanwhile, acting German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius remains skeptical about supplying Taurus missiles to Ukraine.
