During their discussion, Biden praised the Czech Republic's support for Ukraine, specifically highlighting efforts to supply artillery ammunition to Ukrainian forces.

"You're a valuable ally. Our bond is growing stronger as we deepen our defense cooperation and collaborate on clean energy. Your assistance to Ukraine is commendable," remarked the US president.

Biden also stressed the significance of Congress passing legislation for aid to Ukraine, underscoring the Czech Republic's understanding of Russia's intentions in the region.

"Today, NATO shields us, and European members are stepping up their defense commitments. It's crucial to stand firm against Russian aggression," emphasized Prime Minister Fiala.

He expressed confidence that the outcome of Russian aggression in Ukraine is being closely observed by other nations, warning that its success could embolden other aggressors.

"If Russia succeeds, it sets a dangerous precedent. We must not allow its aggressive policies to prevail," he added.

Furthermore, Fiala highlighted the Czech Republic's achievement of energy independence from Russia through the import of liquefied natural gas from the USA.

Fiala is scheduled to address the US Congress on Tuesday, April 16, advocating for additional financial support for Ukraine.

"While I don't expect to single-handedly sway US policy, I aim to share our Central European perspective and experiences," Fiala concluded.

  • The day prior, Prime Minister Fiala announced that contracts for the purchase of 180,000 artillery ammunition have been finalized as part of the Czech initiative to support Ukraine, with plans for an additional 300,000 contracts.
