Ukrainian National Security and Defense Council Secretary Oleksiy Danilov has commented on the recent statement by French President Emmanuel Macron. He stressed that security guarantees are needed from Russia and not for it

He wrote about this on Facebook.

Danilov stressed that Macron's statement is "a strange logic of undercover diplomacy" and that the blood of Ukrainians on Putin's hands cannot be ignored.

"Do they want to provide security guarantees to a terrorist and murderer country? Instead of Nuremberg, signing an agreement with Russia and shaking hands? Ukrainian blood on Putin's hands won't hurt business as usual? The strange logic of under-the-carpet diplomacy, the time of which is over," he writes.

He stressed that the world needs security guarantees, not Russia and that the best guarantor will be its demilitarization and denuclearization.

"The question is to guarantee the world's security from so-called Russia, not the other way around. The Budapest experience is beneficial for you. When you're unarmed, you don't pose a threat. Unfortunately, we know. Denuclearized and Demilitarized so-called Russia is the best guarantee of peace for Europe and the world," Danilov said.

The secretary also stressed that the only guarantee for Russia is "the humanism of the European judicial system, where the death penalty is not provided for after the verdict in the Hague."

  • On December 3, French President Emmanuel Macron said that Europe's security architecture should include guarantees for Russia, particularly the NATO expansion's impossibility.
