Ukraine agrees to 30-kilometer demilitarized zone with Russia, Kellogg says
Trump’s special representative for Ukraine, Keith Kellogg, claims that Ukraine is allegedly ready to agree to a 30-kilometer demilitarized zone in the war with Russia
He said this in an interview with Fox News.
The diplomat believes that the solution may lie in a "local" ceasefire, where both sides maintain control over the territories they currently hold.
"Therefore, Ukrainians should be told: 'This is one of those situations that may change over time.' If you agree to a ceasefire at the current positions, the land you control, the land you've fought for, is yours at this moment," he said.
According to him, Ukraine is allegedly ready for a temporary demilitarized zone: Ukrainian defenders could withdraw 15 km, as could the Russian forces. This would create a 30-kilometer zone free of combat, which would be controlled by military 'Coalitions of the Willing.'
"And they are ready, for a certain period, to create a demilitarized zone. In fact, they said: we will withdraw 15 km, and you, Russians, will also withdraw 15 km. So, a 30-kilometer zone is created, which is clearly controlled. It will be possible to monitor if there are any violations," claimed the U.S. special representative.
- Following negotiations between the Ukrainian delegation in London, including with U.S. Special Representative Keith Kellogg, a list of 22 actions regarding a ceasefire was developed.
