Trump sees no reason to economically isolate Russia — Vance
U.S. President Donald Trump sees no reason for the economic isolation of Russia, except for continuing the war. He is also ready to make deals with Moscow that are beneficial for Washington
U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance stated that "The President (of the U.S. – ed.) has been very open both with Europeans and with Russians that he does not see any reason why we should economically isolate Russia, except for continuation of the conflict. He wants the killing to stop," Vance said.
He claims that the head of the White House is prepared for advantageous economic deals with Russia concerning oil, gas, and minerals.
According to Vance, a possible peaceful settlement would allow the U.S. to develop economic relations with both Kyiv and Moscow.
"Frankly, if we had a better relationship economically in Eastern Europe and that region of the world, it might actually be the best guarantee of a long-term peace," the U.S. Vice President said. "Because once you've got good economic relationships with people, you don’t want to blow that staff up, quite literally, by restarting a war... Let’s create some economic cooperation between Russia, Ukraine, and the U.S. and let's set the table for a long-term, durable peace."
On September 8, U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent stressed that the United States is ready to increase pressure on Russia in order to collapse its economy, but this would also require Europe’s support.
