The U.S. President’s Special Representative for Russia and Ukraine, Keith Kellogg, stated that he is personally taking 180 days to engage all parties in resolving the war in Ukraine

RBC-Ukraine reported this, citing Kellogg’s speech at the Munich Conference.

“I am publicly taking 180 days to engage all parties,” he said, emphasizing that the war in Ukraine must end sooner than in a year.

In his opinion, the true success for Ukraine will not be a ceasefire or even a long-term peace treaty.

“The definition of success will be how the first ceasefire violation is handled and how all parties respond to it,” said Trump’s special representative.

He mentioned that Donald Trump wants to ensure that the war stops permanently and that Ukraine becomes a sovereign and secure state.

“This depends on all of us (allies – ed.). When we talk about security guarantees, we must understand that we are committing to them. This is an obligation,” Kellogg said, stressing the need for Europe to increase defense spending.

Trump’s special representative also outlined the main stages for achieving a ceasefire, including the timeline and conditions.

“We need to stop the killing. However you name it—ceasefire—it must be done. First, the timeline must be defined. And when we determine what stable security conditions mean, we must clearly define this concept. But once that is properly outlined, achieving a ceasefire must be the first step. And it doesn’t matter what happens afterward. Ukraine is part of this conflict. Therefore, both parties in the conflict must decide to stop the fighting. Ukrainians are part of this decision; they are the ones dying on the battlefield,” Kellogg said.

According to him, when considering the continuation of the war, one must also think about its potential escalation. He reminded the audience that alliances are being built, particularly Russia’s alliances with China, North Korea, and Iran. “The situation is changing, and we are looking at this strategically. It’s not only a European issue; it’s a global one,” he added.

  • U.S. President Donald Trump mentioned that he had spoken by phone with Russian dictator Vladimir Putin to try to negotiate an end to the war in Ukraine. Meanwhile, the Kremlin could neither confirm nor deny this information.
