Trump announces call with Putin to discuss land, power plants. Kremlin confirms date
U.S. President Donald Trump announced that on Tuesday, March 18, he plans to hold a conversation with Russian leader Vladimir Putin regarding ending the war in Ukraine, as well as discussing territories and power plants
He stated this to journalists, as reported by Reuters.
According to the White House leader, a lot of work has been done over the weekend.
“I’ll be speaking to President Putin on Tuesday. A lot of work’s been done over the weekend. We want to see if we can bring that war to an end. Maybe we can, maybe we can’t, but I think we have a very good chance,” Trump said.
At the same time, the American president added that the conversation with Putin would address issues of territories and power plants.
“We’ll be talking about land. We’ll be talking about power plants. I think we have a lot of it already discussed very much by both sides, Ukraine and Russia. We’re already talking about that, dividing up certain assets,” he noted.
Meanwhile, Putin’s spokesperson, Dmitry Peskov, confirmed to TASS that the conversation between the Kremlin leader and the U.S. president would take place on March 18.
U.S. Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard emphasized that Trump had already clearly outlined his position—he wants to end Russia’s war against Ukraine.
“The negotiations (with Ukraine and Russia - ed.) have just begun and he's looking forward to success, not for himself but for the cause of peace and to stop the taking of innocent lives,” Gabbard added.
According to the intelligence chief, the U.S. has the best negotiators working with both Ukrainians and Russians, so Washington expects further progress.
“President Trump will have a very productive conversation with Putin at the right time, relying on his unwavering commitment to peace,” she noted.
- Earlier, Donald Trump stated that he was somewhat sarcastic when, during his election campaign, he promised to end the war in Ukraine within 24 hours. According to him, he meant that he would like to resolve it.
