Russia must be forced into peace, but not through pressure on Ukraine — Ukraine’s ex-PM

The former Prime Minister of Ukraine (2014-2016) and Head of the Kyiv Security Forum, Arseniy Yatsenyuk, noted that Starmer and Macron are currently acting as mediators between Ukraine and the United States

He shared his opinions with Espreso TV.

"I am used to trusting only actions, not words, and today there is a list of actions. The key action is the halt of arms supplies to Ukraine from the American administration. The next action is the suspension of intelligence sharing between Ukraine and the U.S. Unfortunately, this concerns not only U.S. intelligence but also intelligence from other countries in the so-called Five Eyes alliance. These are the four other countries: Canada, the United Kingdom, New Zealand, and Australia. Part of all the information these countries have is also sourced from American intelligence," explained Yatsenyuk.

According to the Head of the Kyiv Security Forum, as long as Ukraine is deprived of both weapons and intelligence, as well as American assistance in general, Russia’s negotiating position will shift to exerting pressure on Ukraine for capitulation. Ukraine cannot manage this situation alone. Therefore, it is vital for the EU and the United Kingdom to stand with Ukraine.

"And now they have started doing this. The fact that Starmer and Macron are effectively acting as mediators between Ukraine and the U.S. gives a chance that Ukraine, the EU, and the UK will present their agreed peace plan, which will define clear red lines. Within these negotiations, there needs to be a unified negotiating position, and everything must be done to ensure that the U.S. adopts this shared position. This is an extremely difficult task, but then we can sit down for negotiations with the war criminal Putin. Russia must be forced to come to this peace, but not by pressuring Ukraine," emphasized Yatsenyuk.

  • British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and French President Emmanuel Macron are reportedly ready to travel to the U.S. with Volodymyr Zelenskyy next week.
  • CIA Director John Ratcliffe has officially announced a temporary suspension of U.S. weapons deliveries and intelligence sharing with Ukraine. However, Bloomberg, citing a Ukrainian official, claims that Kyiv is still receiving U.S. intelligence.
