CIA announces temporary halt to weapons, intelligence support for Ukraine
CIA Director John Ratcliffe has officially announced a temporary suspension of U.S. weapons deliveries and intelligence sharing with Ukraine. However, Bloomberg, citing a Ukrainian official, claims that Kyiv is still receiving U.S. intelligence
This was reported by Fox Business correspondent Edward Lawrence from the White House.
“CIA Director John Ratcliffe just told Maria Bartiromo U.S. paused weapons shipments AND intelligence to Ukraine in the fallout of meeting in the Oval Office. Ratcliffe says he looks forward to lifting the pause and working with Ukraine towards peace following the letter to POTUS,” he wrote on X.
At the same time, Bloomberg reports that Ukrainians are currently receiving U.S. intelligence. According to an anonymous Ukrainian official, Kyiv has not observed any disruption in the flow of such information.
Meanwhile, Sky News, citing a Ukrainian source, reports that Washington has cut off intelligence data that could be used by the Ukrainian Armed Forces for deep strikes inside Russia. However, it is also emphasized that the U.S. has not completely halted intelligence sharing.
“Unfortunately, yes, but not completely. It is selective. On the possibility of damage on the territory of the Russian Federation,” the source explained.
Earlier, The New York Times reported that during his speech in Congress, Donald Trump praised Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelenskyy's statement about returning to discussions on steps to end the war and a mineral deal.
At the same time, the U.S. president left in place his ban on delivery of further weapons or other major aid to Ukraine, according to the NYT.
The outlet also noted that during his speech, Trump did not address the issue of what a fair peace in Ukraine might look like and did not once suggest that Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin might have to make any concessions in return.
Suspension of U.S. military aid
The U.S. president has not publicly announced a halt to arms supplies to Ukraine, but U.S. media reported that Donald Trump ordered a stop to all current military aid to Ukraine until he is convinced that the country's leaders "demonstrate a sincere commitment to peace."
According to their reports, all American military equipment, including weapons that have not yet arrived in Ukraine, is being transported via planes and ships or is waiting in transit zones in Poland, where it will remain.
On March 4, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk confirmed that the U.S. had suspended the delivery of military cargo to Ukraine.
At the same time, Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal said: "We will continue our calm work with the U.S. through all available diplomatic channels, with the U.S. Congress, the Trump administration, and President Trump himself."
